Magdalena Bay Fly Fishing
Magdalena Bay provides fly anglers a diverse fishery that includes both inshore and offshore opportunities. Between the extensive mangrove estuaries inside the bay and the world renowned banks in the Pacific, there's quality fly fishing 12 months a year.
The bay system itself is as large as San Francisco Bay and mostly undeveloped. Mile after mile of mangrove lined shore provides excellent habitat for a wide variety of species including; snook, pargo, grouper, corvina, and halibut. In these rich tidal estuaries a fly angler can find good fishing all year with the help of a knowledgeable local guide who knows the water, the species, and the subtleties of the tides.
In the open Pacific some of the best fly fishing on the west coast of North America awaits. Beginning in late July, dorado and yellowtail provide the first targets for offshore fly fishermen. By late August schools of yellowfin tuna, dorado, wahoo and marlin gather on the legendary banks like the Thetis. The action continues well into the fall. October and November are prime season for hunting pelagic species including some of the best striped marlin fishing in the world.
